THE LITTLE PETAL CAKES STORY
Thanks for dropping by!
I’m Emma Wilkins. I live and work in Bingley, West Yorkshire making all your celebration cake dreams come true! My passion for baking began when my much loved eldest daughter approached her first birthday. It was such an exciting time and I really wanted the most special cake for her and knew I wouldn't find it on a supermarket shelf. So off I went, buying lots of tools and ingredients and seeking online guides to make her a two tier penguin themed birthday cake! It was ‘imperfectly beautiful’ and from there on in, I had completely caught the ‘bug’ that is cake making and decorating. I knew I wanted to become the best I could be at making stunning cakes.
I registered my hobby a business while on maternity leave with my second daughter and attended Shipley College for a year, where I learned some great techniques. The local Environmental Health Officer awarded me a fabulous 5, so I was good to go and haven’t looked back!
Working from home, I have the flexibility to take on last minute orders, however, if you know your special event date, then earlier is always better.
Do get in touch- I’d love to discuss your requirements
and tell you how I can help.
Ever mindful of our incredible planet and its future, I use reusable or recyclable materials and avoid using plastic in cake presentation packaging wherever possible. Cling film begone! It is all about reusable cover wrapping in this establishment!
Wherever possible, I only use ingredients containing sustainably sourced palm oil proven by certification.
It is so important to support local suppliers and they are key to Little Petal Cakes, with eggs being sourced very locally.
Your cakes are baked with energy supplied by Octopus (shout up for an introducer bonus!). I do pay a little more for this, but to me, it is absolutely worth it!
In December 2019 Little Petal Cakes was honoured with the prestigious "Plastic Free Champion" award, in conjunction with Plastic Free Bingley and Surfers Against Sewage in Cornwall. It's amazing to have my efforts acknowledged in such a way!
Here are a few of my most recent creations.
Prices are based on a vanilla sponge with jam and Madagascan vanilla buttercream filling, finished with buttercream.
Your cake will be supplied on a fondant covered or coloured board, with colour coordinated buttercream and boxed with lid for transportation.
I have a beautiful range of edible printed and bespoke card toppers to suit children and adults alike. You can also choose to have one of these and or your favourite sweets or chocolates at an additional cost.
To secure your order, a non-refundable part payment is required, which equates to 50% of the total cake cost. The only time a refund would be considered is if I was unable to honour your booking for any reason.
Payment of the remaining balance must be paid at least one week before collection,
by bank transfer (bank details are provided in the invoice).

I appreciate every single order and your support of my small local business.
What flavours do you offer?
Sponge and buttercream in any delicious combination of - vanilla, chocolate and lemon!
Do you make themed cakes with sugar craft figures?
No, themed cakes are not something I offer. I do, however, use fabulous quality edible cake toppers, which are perfect for fun and bright children's birthday cakes. I also craft bespoke card toppers, which are great for all celebrations- graduation, birthday, engagement etc. I find that toppers can be easily adaptable to reflect the occasion you're celebrating- that way, you only really need to think about the colour you'd like!
Where are you and when can I collect my order?
I am located in Bingley, working from my studio at my home address. My hours of availability are quite specific and based around family commitments.
Weekdays between 9.30am and 2.30pm, or evenings between 5.30 and 6.00pm,
Weekends between 9.30am and 10.30am.
How shall I transport my order and where is it best kept at home?
When carrying (particularly cake), make sure you hold and carry the box keeping it as flat and level as possible- this isn’t a time for cuddling cake!! Please make sure there is clean and clear space in your boot or passenger seat foot well. This is important as those areas provide the most level surface in the car…. knees and seats do not!! It might be prudent to bring a piece of non-slip mat as extra security. Once home, keep the cake boxed and in a cool dry place, away from direct heat sources or sunlight. You can keep the cake in the fridge, but let it come to room temperature for the best eating experience! Also, be aware (if refrigerating) that any toppings such as biscuits will become soft.
Shall I cut the cake in wedges?
You can cut in wedges if you wish, but that will mean you finish up with less portions that those stated in the servings guide.
I advise cutting widthways across the entire cake, then slicing each section into portions.
Do you cater for special dietary requirements?
Depending on your exact requirements, I can possibly help. It must be understood, however, that my kitchen is part of my family home and not ‘free from’ anything. Before each bake, my kitchen is cleaned to EHO standards.
